Coastal Talk News | Udupi
Udupi Deputy Commissioner Swaroopa T K has said that the district administration is receiving complaints about stray dog attacks almost every day, but a lack of response and cooperation from animal welfare organisations is making it difficult to address the problem. Speaking to a delegation of Udupi City BJP leaders that met her, Deputy Commissioner said substantial funds were available for capturing stray dogs and carrying out sterilisation programmes. However, there was a shortage of personnel to catch the dogs. The district administration was also ready to provide training to those involved in the operation, but it was unable to find the required manpower.
She said that animal welfare organisations operating in the district had been offering suggestions to the district administration, but had not come forward to provide the necessary assistance. The fact that no animal welfare organisation in the district was registered with the relevant Central government body had also created difficulties for the administration, she pointed out. BJP delegation assured the Deputy Commissioner that Udupi City BJP leaders, former CMC councillors and MLAs of Udupi district would work with the district administration to address these issues and support public welfare initiatives. BJP city leaders and former municipal councillors were present during the meeting.
