Uttara Kannada district administration has lifted restrictions on the movement of heavy vehicles on the Kaiga-Karwar State Highway to facilitate the transportation of construction materials for Units 5 and 6 of the Kaiga Nuclear Power Project. However, vehicles are permitted to carry a maximum load of 15 metric tonnes per axle.

Heavy vehicle movement had earlier been restricted due to the deteriorating condition of the highway, and the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) was directed to undertake road repair works. Following the completion of the repair work, officials from the Public Works Department inspected the road. Subsequently, the restrictions were lifted on October 16.

NPCIL has taken responsibility for ensuring that vehicles transporting construction materials do not exceed the prescribed axle load limit. The corporation has also been instructed to undertake immediate repairs if the road deteriorates again, according to a statement issued by NPCIL.
