Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (Praveen Kumar Shetty faction) has warned of a protest against the district administration over the placement of old equipment in the new district government hospital building at Ajjarakad, demanding a fully equipped facility.
Addressing reporters at Udupi Press Club here on Monday, the organisation’s honorary president, Ansar Ahmed, said the administration had assured them during the protest that the new building would be opened before November 5.
Ansar Ahmed alleged that old equipment, including cots and other items, was being shifted from the existing hospital to the new building in haste, contrary to their demand for a fully equipped facility. “This has been a long-pending demand. We will protest if the administration shows negligence,” he said.
Former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai laid the foundation stone for the 250-bed hospital on August 12, 2021. The project received administrative approval for Rs 115 crore in November 2020. A contract to take up the work was awarded to a Hyderabad based company and a work order in this regard was given to the contractor on September 8, 2021.
