Kalsanka Free-Left: Motorists Seek Faster Completion of Rs 49 lakh worth project
Coastal Talk News @ Udupi
The widening of the free-left stretch at Kalsanka Junction towards Ambagilu, taken up by the Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC), is aimed at improving traffic movement at one of Udupi’s busiest junctions, with motorists now urging that the works that were taken up be completed at the earliest.
The project was commenced on February 2, 2026, at an estimated cost of Rs 49 lakh. The widening was planned to make the free-left movement more effective and provide smoother passage for vehicles travelling towards Ambagilu, thereby reducing pressure on the main junction. Kalsanka connects the City Bus Stand with Ambagilu, Manipal and other important parts of the city and experiences considerable traffic movement throughout the day. The free-left facility is particularly important for vehicles moving towards Doddanagudde and Ambagilu.
Motorists have now suggested that a clear signboard indicating the free-left towards Doddanagudde be installed to help drivers navigate the junction smoothly. They have also pointed out that signal lights at Kalsanka would help regulate vehicle movement and ensure better compliance by motorists. Another concern is the movement of heavy vehicles near the bridge adjoining the free-left stretch. Motorists said completing the work in this portion at the earliest would help facilitate smoother movement of heavy motor vehicles and improve overall traffic flow. The completion of the widening work, along with appropriate signage and traffic regulation measures, is expected to further improve mobility through the Kalsanka junction.
